heart-shaped balloon

A child held onto a heart-shaped balloon
He found her amusing for an hour or two

He pulled on her string and pushed her around
And with each hit, she would try to rebound

And when he grew tired, he let go of the string
Off the heart sailed, fearing what the future would bring

She flew higher, higher, and even higher still
Alone she ascended, above the grassy hills

The heart was uncertain what her fate might be
Hurt and betrayal were all she could see

And just when she thought that the end would surely come
She looked and saw a rainbow, a bright and colorful one

But as the colors drew close it became very clear
There wasn't a rainbow at all up here -

But instead of a rainbow there was something more profound
There were millions of balloons just floating around!

The heart-shaped balloon took her place in the pack
And forever thereafter, she never looked back.
